Lapel pins at old prices during May, while supplies last
The following is for informational purposes only and not to be considered legal advice.
Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) does not apply to non-commercial organizations like Probus clubs for activities such as collecting membership fees, organizing club activities, compiling a list of members' names and addresses, or mailing out newsletters. Probus clubs are thus not required to post relevant policies on their websites.
However, as responsible and caring handlers of personal information we owe it to our members and guests to protect their information the best way we can and to be transparent about it. This is why it is recommended to have a privicy policy in place, to make it available via the club's website, and to follow it!
Clubs are welcome to copy or adapt the respective privacy policy published on the PROBUS Canada website (link to document).
You can either search the website using keywords, or you can navigate a folder structure.
In the top right corner you can find an icon looking like a magnifying glass. Click on it or touch it to open the search bar.
Add your keyword(s) and then click or tap on Return to get search results. Each search result has a link to click on.
The PROBUS Canada website at https://www.probuscanada.ca hides the navigation bar on small devices like iPads or iPhones.
It is easy to expand this sidebar by just clicking on or touching the icon with 3 horizontal bars in the top left corner. This will slide out the bar so that you can click on or touch any of the links to various chapters.
The down arrows on the left side of a chapter indicates that there are sub-pages. Click on or touch an arrow to expand the list.
The website at https://probuscanada.ca offers visitors to view and download the documents of the Club Reference Guide.
For a given document there are typically large icons on the right-hand side to download in the indicated format. Clicking on one of these icons will send a copy to your computer's Downloads folder.
Alternatively, hovering the computer mouse over the document brings up a grey, squared icon in the document's top right corner. Clicking on this icon opens the document with its own menu.
To download the document in one of the available formats, click on File -> Download and then on the desired format such as Microsoft word (.docx).
It is also possible to stay within Google Docs by using the option to Make a copy to your own Google Drive. Once the copy has been made, you can edit your own version as needed.
It is recommended that Probus clubs display the Standard Constitution on their websites. Since the document is not to be modified outside the amendment process, it is advisable to point to the master document rather than making local copies. That way any future updates will automatically appear on club websites.
Many (most?) websites allow embedding code that displays the master document on a club website. Please refer to your website's help documentation on how to embed the following code, which you can see in action at https://www.beavervalleyprobus.com/Constitution/
<iframe width="100%" height="1090px" src="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wodecSbXUMh7RLl3lRk-6IUWcDnK7NRXJxjzIaSZ6Qo/view?rm=minimal" frameborder="no"></iframe>
Alternatively, a link to the master document can be added to a club website. Depending on the computer used, clicking on this link results either in a PDF download or in a display in the browser's PDF viewer.
